Holacracy is one of the most well known frameworks for running organizations in a decentralized way by combining two systems of authority that organizations usually choose between: autocracy & consensus-building.

The way it works is that circles/pods/rings are given authority in their domains & champions are given authority over circles - but roles & elections for these roles are set collectively.

In this way, it is able to use personal autonomy for fast execution & use collective intelligence for improving processes & figuring out long term direction.

In this playbook, you will learn the basics of running Holacracy or at least Holacracy-like calls.

Implementing it comes down to setting a syncing rhythm for the organization: weekly syncs for operational issues, monthly syncs for organizational issues & seasonal syncs for strategy discussion.

The best thing about these is that they allow you to run meetings effectively.

Meeting types in Holacracy:

Tactical meetings

Tactical meetings are used for covering operational needs, triaging issues & removing obstacles - all members are invited to bring agenda items & the facilitator manages the conversation so everything can be covered.

Tactical meetings produce actionable next steps or projects,

Each ring usually hold its tactical meetings once a week. They require a facilitator & a scribe, which can rotate.

Tactical meetings are a great way to sync but they shouldn’t hinder progress.
